Heidi Newfield performs at Welcome Reception

American country music artist Heidi Newfield will perform at the Central Plains Dairy Expo’s Welcome Reception and Concert March 30.

The reception is free for milk producers, calf raisers and heifer growers and their families and employees -- thanks to support from sponsors.

Call 218-236-8420 or email kathy@centralplainsdairyexpo.com to reserve your tickets.

Newfield is perhaps best known her for her hit single, “Johnny and June,” which peaked at No. 11 on the country charts in September 2008.

From 1996 to 2006, Newfield was lead singer, rhythm guitarist and harmonica player for the group Trick Pony.

As a solo artist and songwriter, she had several hits in addition to “Johnny and June”, including "Cry Cry” ('Til the Sun Shines) and “What Am I Waiting For.”

Newfield grew up on a horse farm in Healdsburg, Calif., and her mother nurtured her love of country music.

“Every trail ride, every horse show and rodeo was set to a soundtrack of Ernest Tubb, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline and all the great traditionalists,” she recalls.

Later -- to her mother’s dismay -- Heidi’s two older sisters turned her on to the great rock bands of the 60’s and 70’s, including The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, and AC\DC. Heidi also fell in love with traditional blues, and began playing the harmonica at an early age, attracted by what she calls “the most lonesome sound on the planet.”

Don’t miss Newfield’s performance at the 2010 Central Plains Dairy Expo.
