Cumberland Valley Analytical Services (CVAS) was started in 1992 as a small chemistry forage lab serving the local dairy industry in Maryland and south central Pennsylvania. The founder, Ralph Ward, saw a need for forage diagnostic services that were not generally available to nutritionists, veterinarians and others providing nutritional and management services for dairy managers. Beginning with only 800 square feet of leased space and two employees, CVAS has grown considerably. The organization now operates from a 30,000-square-foot facility in Waynesboro, PA, and is in contemplation of additional space for continued expansion. CVAS currently employs more than 100 people in its Waynesboro facility and has satellite locations in Batavia, NY, Madison, WI, and Zumbrota, MN.

CVAS has grown significantly by providing cutting-edge forage evaluation services in a quick, accurate, and cost-effective manner. CVAS was the first to commercially offer the Fermentation Analysis. CVAS was among the first laboratories to offer extensive in vitro digestibility services and analyses for the Cornell and CPM-Dairy nutritional models.

As one of the largest chemistry-based feed labs in the United States, CVAS has the resources to offer one of the most comprehensive sets of forage NIR (near-infrared) evaluations available to the industry.

Cumberland Valley Analytical Services is a full-service forage testing laboratory specializing in high-end and innovative characterizations of feed materials for ruminants.  In vitro and in situ evaluations of feeds are a specialty.  Our pick-up routes and shipping options allow for next day service from most locations in the U.S.  More information at www.foragelab.com.
